Twitter video downloader
Paste a link to a public Twitter post and download its video as an MP4. Old twitter.com links and current x.com links are supported, with the available video quality shown before you download.
Accepts public twitter.com and x.com post links. Paste the link to the individual post, not a profile or search page.
Twitter became X in 2023. The name changed, the domain changed, and the logo changed. For anyone working with video links, however, much of the underlying structure stayed the same. Old Twitter URLs still point to the same posts, and people still search for "Twitter video downloader" even though the platform is now called X.
This page explains what changed, what stayed the same, why old links still work, and how to use a Twitter or X video link with a downloader.
A post URL contains several pieces of information, but the most important part is the long number at the end.
twitter.com/username/status/1234567890123456789
That number is the post ID. It is assigned when the post is created and remains associated with that post even if the account changes its username or the platform changes its branding.
That is why an old Twitter URL and the corresponding X URL can point to the same post:
twitter.com/user/status/1234567890x.com/user/status/1234567890The hostname changed, but the post ID did not. A downloader that extracts the post ID can therefore treat both URLs as references to the same content.
You do not need to manually convert an old Twitter link into an X link before using it. If you have a valid public post URL, you can generally paste it as copied.
The important part of a video URL is the post path containing /status/ and the numeric post ID. Depending on where the link came from, you may encounter different hostname or tracking variations.
twitter.com/username/status/...x.com/username/status/...mobile.twitter.com/username/status/...m.twitter.com/username/status/...mobile.x.com/username/status/...www. prefixesShare links can also contain tracking parameters such as ?s=20&t=abc123. These parameters are not the post itself. A downloader can normally ignore them and use the underlying post URL.
Third-party mirror domains such as vxtwitter.com, fxtwitter.com, and fixupx.com are different services rather than official Twitter or X domains. If you have one of these links, the safest approach is to open it and copy the original X post URL before downloading.
The rebrand was more than a logo change, but the changes happened at different layers of the platform. The URL structure and post IDs remained familiar while the branding, product features, API access, and upload capabilities changed over time.
One of the biggest changes for third-party developers was the move away from broadly available free API access. Access to programmatic platform data became more restricted and increasingly dependent on paid access and changing platform policies.
That change affected many independent clients, automation tools, archival projects, and utilities that had depended on direct API access.
Modern third-party tools therefore need to work within the public data and access methods that are available to them. This also explains an important limitation: a public downloader cannot magically access content that X itself does not expose publicly.
X now supports longer and higher-quality video uploads for eligible accounts than the platform historically allowed for ordinary users.
As a result, the available resolution can vary significantly from one post to another. One video may have a 360p and 720p rendition, while another may also have a 1080p version.
The available versions depend on the original upload and the processing performed by the platform. A downloader cannot create genuine detail that was never present in the available source.
For a detailed explanation of resolution and HD downloads, see the X video downloader HD page.
X expanded its video experience with longer-form video and a more dedicated video interface. The underlying delivery of online video can involve adaptive streaming, while downloadable progressive video files may also be available for individual posts.
That distinction matters because watching a video and downloading a complete video file are not necessarily the same technical process.
Despite the rebrand, several things remain familiar to people who used Twitter before it became X.
The platform may be called X, but the word "Twitter" remains deeply embedded in how people describe the service.
People still call posts tweets, remember the old Twitter domain, use the old terminology in conversation, and search using phrases they have used for years.
"Twitter video downloader" is also more descriptive to many searchers than "X video downloader". The word Twitter immediately identifies the platform, while the single letter X has many unrelated meanings.
That is why both terms remain useful. A person searching for a Twitter video downloader and a person searching for an X video downloader are usually looking for the same basic thing: a way to save a video from a public post.
This page uses both vocabularies naturally so that the terminology matches how people actually search for the tool.
Open the post containing the video rather than copying a link from a profile page or a general timeline.
Opening the individual post makes it easier to verify that you have selected the exact video you want.
Use the share button on the post and select Copy link.
On a computer, you can also open the individual post and copy its URL directly from the browser address bar.
A normal post URL should contain /status/ followed by a numeric ID.
Paste the copied Twitter or X URL into the downloader field above.
Tracking parameters attached to the end of the URL generally do not matter. The important part is the post reference.
Press the download or Get video button. The tool checks the public post and determines which video versions are available.
If multiple versions are available, choose the resolution that fits your needs.
The highest available resolution is usually the best choice when you plan to keep or edit the video. A lower resolution can make more sense when storage, bandwidth, or attachment size matters.
Not every URL that looks related to a video is actually a direct post containing that video. Several common link types can cause a downloader to return no media.
A profile URL identifies an account rather than an individual post.
For example:
x.com/username
This does not identify one specific video. You need the URL of the individual post, normally containing /status/ followed by a numeric ID.
A repost or quote post can point toward another post containing the original video. The post you copied may therefore not contain the actual media itself.
If a downloader says that a post has no video, open the original post and copy its link instead.
The original post is usually the one where the author's own account is displayed directly above the video.
Links shared through Twitter and X can sometimes be wrapped in t.co, the platform's link-shortening and redirect system.
A shortened URL is not the same thing as a normal post URL. If your downloader does not accept it, open the link in your browser first, wait for it to redirect to the post, and then copy the final URL from the address bar.
A copied URL may contain extra parameters after the post ID:
x.com/user/status/1234567890?s=20&t=abc123
These parameters are not required to identify the post. If a tool rejects the URL, removing everything after the numeric post ID can produce the clean version:
x.com/user/status/1234567890
Some content is inaccessible because of how X serves it, not because a downloader is missing a particular feature.
| Content | Why it may be unavailable |
|---|---|
| Protected posts | The media is restricted to an approved audience rather than being publicly accessible. |
| Direct messages | DM media belongs to a private authenticated conversation rather than a public post. |
| Deleted posts | If the post and its media are no longer served, a public downloader has nothing to retrieve. |
| Restricted or age-gated content | Some content requires account authentication or additional access checks. |
| Live broadcasts still in progress | A live broadcast is being delivered as a stream rather than as one completed downloadable file. |
Being logged into X in another browser tab does not automatically give a third-party downloader access to your private session. A public tool should not ask for your X password or session cookies simply to download a public video.
A normal video download is not the same action as liking, reposting, or replying to a post.
The author does not receive a standard notification saying that a particular person downloaded their video.
If you are using a third-party downloader, the downloader may receive the public information needed to locate the post and its available media. You should therefore avoid entering private account credentials into an unknown downloader.
Twitter and X video downloads are commonly provided as MP4 files. MP4 is widely supported by phones, computers, browsers, editing applications, televisions, and social platforms.
The exact technical properties of a downloaded video can vary between posts and available renditions. For a detailed explanation of MP4 containers, codecs, bitrate, resolution, HLS, and progressive video, see the X video downloader MP4 guide.
The important point is that a downloader does not need to convert every video into a different format just to make it usable. MP4 is already suitable for most playback and editing workflows.
Not every X video has the same set of downloadable resolutions.
A short clip may only expose a small number of renditions. Another video may provide 720p or 1080p. The difference can come from the original upload, the account's upload capabilities, the processing applied by the platform, and the age of the post.
If 1080p is not available, selecting a different downloader cannot create genuine 1080p source detail. Upscaling a 720p file changes its dimensions but does not restore information that was never present.
For a deeper explanation of choosing between 360p, 480p, 720p, and 1080p, see how X video quality works.
A valid-looking URL does not always mean that the underlying media is currently accessible.

Both are understandable, but they serve different purposes.
X is the platform's current name.
Twitter is still widely used by people searching for the service, referring to historical posts, or describing the platform using its former name.
For downloading purposes, there is no separate "Twitter video" technology and "X video" technology. They refer to videos hosted by the same platform across its rebrand.
So whether you searched for a Twitter video downloader or an X video downloader, the workflow is essentially the same: copy the public post URL, paste it into the tool, select an available rendition, and download it.
If you are new to downloading videos from X, start with the guide to copying an X video link. It covers the different ways to copy a post URL on phones and computers.
For video quality and resolution choices, read how X video quality works.
For the technical side of MP4, H.264, AAC, bitrate, and streaming formats, see the MP4 guide.
If a particular video refuses to download, the X video download troubleshooting guide covers the common causes.
Questions
Quick answers about downloading Twitter videos, supported links, video quality, and common limitations.
Yes. Twitter video links and X video links can both point to the same public post. If you have an old twitter.com link or a newer x.com link containing the post ID, paste it into the downloader and it can be processed the same way.
Yes. Twitter and X refer to the same platform. This page uses the Twitter name because many people still search for a Twitter video downloader, while the main tool also supports current X links.
Open the Twitter post containing the video, tap the share button and copy the post link. Paste that link into the downloader, choose the available video quality, and select Download. No Twitter login or additional software is required.
Open the individual Twitter post containing the video, tap the share icon and choose Copy link. On desktop, you can also open the post and copy its URL from the browser address bar.
For the most reliable result, open the original post containing the video and copy that post's link. A retweet may point to another post rather than directly identifying the media you want to download.
Twitter does not provide a universal download button for videos posted by other accounts. A Twitter video downloader provides a separate way to save media from publicly accessible posts when the media is available.
The downloader does not send a like, reply, repost, or follow to the Twitter account. It simply processes the public post link you provide and returns the available media for download.
No. Protected posts are not publicly accessible to an external downloader. The same limitation applies to private posts, direct-message media, and other content that is not publicly available.
The downloader provides the video resolutions available for that particular post. The exact quality depends on the media uploaded to Twitter. If the highest available file is 720p, a downloader cannot create genuine additional detail beyond that source.
